Clinical effects of local use of probiotics as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal therapy

Introduction. Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory caused by pathologic microorganisms/periopathogens from oral biofilm. Standard periodontal therapy consists of scaling and root planing (SRP). Probiotics can be used as an adjunctive to standard therapy, since it known that probiotics modify pathogenic potential biofilm suppressing the colonization periopathogens. The aim this study was assess clinical effect Bifidobacterium Lactobacillus probiotic lozenges, mouthwash, adjuvant SRP in treatment initial moderate periodontitis. Material methods. Thirty patients with periodontitis were recruited monitored clinically at baseline (before SRP) 60 days following SRP.
